Elle  (she/her) is a second year Jesuit Volunteer/Americorps Member  and the Wellness Programming Producer at KYUK. She is happy to have found a position where she can use her biology minor AND communication major at the same time and excited to be spending a second year learning from the people and land of the Y-K Delta.

While the COVID-19 pandemic and remote schooling created difficulties for the KYUK Media Ready interns, it did not stop them from creating award-winning radio content. On May 9, NPR announced that KYUK interns Kaylee King of Mekoryuk, Jamin Crow of Bethel, and Ethan Lincoln of Toksook Bay were selected as finalists in the 2021 NPR Student Podcast Challenge. The interns’ podcast, titled “Y-K Delta,” was chosen as a top 15 finalist from over 2,600 submissions.

  

This month, TWC's Annie Mae Lee is joined by Carmen Pitka and Hazel Keezer from the Children's Advocacy Center. For Child Abuse Awareness Month, they discuss how to support and recognize child survivors of sexual assault. They also provide information for family members.


Bethel's only recycling program is run through the ONC Natural Resources Department, but there have recently been some changes in how recycling is handled. To discuss all things recycling, ONC Environmental Program Coordinator Mary Matthias joined us on Coffee at KYUK. To enroll in the recycling program, call  907-543-0561. 


Over the past 50 years, the rise of single use materials, especially plastics, have changed the way we live our lives. But how have they affected our bodies? Here to discuss plastic waste and what we can do to clean up our rivers, oceans, and tundra are ONC Natural Resources Technician Kara Black, and Kuskokwim River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission Communications and Outreach Coordinator Terese Schomogyi.


In April's edition of Irniamta Ikayurviat, the program's outreach coordinator, Elena Aluksak, speaks about keeping children safe and preventing them from harm for Child Abuse Awareness Month.


YKHC Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Program Coordinator Victoria Galanopoulos and YKHC Diabetes Prevention and Control Outreach Specialist Emory Johnson are joined by Dr. Sean Davis to discuss oral health. They also talk about how your mouth is your first line of defense in maintaining a healthy immune system.

March 24 is World Tuberculosis (TB) Day, and here to prepare us are public health nurses Donna Fearey and Evie Achee. On this episode, they discuss the history of TB in the region, provide resources for Y-K Delta residents, and interview Katie Roehl, a TB survivor.
