The Association of Village Council Presidents has selected its first female CEO: Vivian Johnson Korthuis. The decision comes on the third day of the regional nonprofit corporation's annual convention, after a year fraught with challenges. Some see this convention, and the change it has brought, as the light at the end of the tunnel.

2016 AVCP Annual Convention Begins

Tribal members and delegates from across 56 villages are coming together in Bethel this week for the annual convention of the Association of Village Council Presidents. And the agenda for the Native regional non-profit corporation is a full one.

Bethel City Council has asked both State Troopers and Bethel PD to more actively enforce existing laws and ordinances banning ATVs on roadways, something Mayor Rick Robb voted against at Tuesday's council meeting.

Bethel has another liquor store. At 11 a.m. Tuesday, Bethel Native Corporation opened Bethel Spirits on Front Street. It’s the second liquor store to open in Bethel this year after an almost half century ban on legal alcohol sales. KYUK’s Anna Rose MacArthur arrived as the doors opened.

2016 PFD Amount Announced

This year's Permanent Fund Dividend amount has been announced, and the payout will be $1,022 per eligible Alaskan.

Governor Bill Walker made the announcement this morning through the release of a video recorded at Valley Pathways High School in Palmer.
