Toksook Bay advances to the 1A state championship final. Scammon Bay will play for third place

The Toksook Bay boys will play for the 1A state championship title against Tanana after upsetting second-seeded Lumen Cristi 84-79 in the semifinal matchup on March 18.

The Islanders used their superior speed and ball handling, along with the inside play of their big man, Colton Angiak, to assume an early lead and never let go.

Angiak ended the game with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Teammate Asa Pitka lead the scoring effort with 24 points. The Islanders shot 50% from the field, and 41% from the 3-point line.

The Scammon Bay Eagles will be playing for a chance to win third place at the state 1A tournament. The Eagles advanced to the semifinals with a win over Shaktoolik, but they were defeated by top-seeded Tanana 66-38. Senior Adam Rivers was awarded player of the game for Scammon Bay.

Scammon Bay will play against Lumen Cristi for third place on Saturday, March 19 at 8 a.m. Toksook Bay will play against Tanana in the state championship game the same day at 4 p.m.

Both games will be aired on KYUK 640AM in English, and on 90.3 FM in Cup’ik.
