The Bogus Creek 150 Sled Dog Race has been postponed. It was originally scheduled for Jan. 15. Race organizers have not announced the new date for the Bogus, but say that it will be held after the Kuskokwim 300 Sled Dog Race, which is scheduled for the last weekend of January.

The Bogus is run by local, regional mushers. Race organizers said in a statement that they chose to postpone the Bogus after hearing from these local mushers that December’s historically warm, wet weather forced them to stop training for two weeks or more. Bethel experienced its rainiest December on record in 2021. Since then, windy, icy conditions have further restricted training.

These icy conditions have also prevented race organizers from marking the trail, and the organizers say that they cannot guarantee a safe, marked trail by the originally scheduled date.

The Kuskokwim 300 and Akiak Dash are still scheduled for the last weekend of January. The Kuskokwim 300 is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 28, and the Akiak Dash on Jan. 29.
