Bethel police say that Ricky Andrew, age 35, of Tuluksak drowned near the Bethel small boat harbor on Oct. 15, 2021.

A man drowned near the Bethel small boat harbor this past weekend. Bethel police identified him as Ricky Andrew, age 35, of Tuluksak.

Around 7:15 p.m. on Oct. 15, police received a report that a man had fallen from a boat into the river outside the harbor entrance. Police and medics arrived to find Andrew unconscious. His family had pulled him from the water.

Medics transported Andrew to the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation Emergency Room where he was pronounced dead. His body will be sent to the medical examiner in Anchorage for autopsy.

This is the first drowning on the Kuskokwim River in 10 months. On New Year's Day, Jan. 1, 2021 two men from Bethel, Joseph Hale and Peter Sallaffie, fell in an unmarked open hole in the river ice near Tuluksak.
