Ravn Alaska is resuming regular flights to Aniak from Anchorage on Feb. 26. It's the first community in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta where Ravn is expanding service. The airline shut down after declaring bankruptcy last summer and has since entered new ownership. KYUK's Anna Rose MacArthur talks with Ravn CEO Rob McKinney about the airline returning to the region.

  

Over three times as many people in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta have received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine as compared to the rest of the nation. Dr. Ellen Hodges, Chief of Staff at the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation, talks with KYUK News Director Anna Rose MacArthur about how the region became a national leader in COVID-19 vaccinations.


Michael McCastle is an American endurance athlete and philanthropist, and is also an air traffic controller in Bethel. He is the current world record holder for the number of pull-ups completed in 24 hours (5,804) while wearing a 30 pound pack. He is the founder of the Twelve Labors Project, a philanthropic organization in which McCastle performs feats of strength and endurance to raise awareness for causes. 


This morning Jamin Crow, a senior at Bethel Regional High School, talked with Kaylee King in Atmautluak and Ethan Lincoln in Toksook Bay about what life is like during the pandemic.


The Mulchatna Caribou Herd is half the size it was five years ago, and hunting the animals is closed to preserve the herd. New data shows brucellosis, a highly contagious bacteria that causes lameness and miscarriages, has infected the herd, and could make it harder for the caribou to bounce back. KYUK talks with Alaska Department of Fish and Game Wildlife Veterinarian Dr. Kimberlee Beckmen, who is researching the bacteria’s impact on the caribou.
