How To Vote Early In Bethel City Council And LKSD School Board Elections

Bethel City Council Elections are coming up on Oct. 5. The Lower Kuskokwim School Board is holding elections on the same day. Bethel residents can start voting in both elections before then, beginning Monday, Sept. 20. There are three ways to vote early, including in-person, by mail, and e-mail.

Early In-Person Voting

Early in-person voting will occur at the Bethel Cultural Center from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Thursdays will have extended hours until 6 p.m. Early voting will not be available on Sept. 22 due to the Association of Village Council Presidents Annual Convention using the same space. Early voting will be available on Saturday, Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Early voting will run from Sept. 20 to Oct. 4, the day before Election Day. 

By Mail

To vote by mail, you must submit an application to vote absentee-by-mail by Sept. 30. You can find the application on the city website or by contacting the city clerk.

E-Mailed Ballot

To vote through e-mailed ballot, you must submit an application by Sept. 26 to get a guaranteed ballot. Applications will be accepted through Oct. 4and processed as staff time allows, but delivery of ballots is not guaranteed if an application is received after Sept. 26.

In Person On Election Day

Of course, you can always vote in person on Election Day, Tuesday, Oct. 5. Polling locations will be at the Bethel Cultural Center and the LKSD District Office.

Bethel City Council Candidates

Six Bethel City Council candidates are running for four open seats. The candidates are Mary “Beth” Hessler, Jared Karr, Jess Schroeder, Eric Whitney, and incumbents Conrad “CJ” McCormick and Mark Springer. Tune into “Coffee at KYUK” each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday the final two weeks of September to hear from each of the candidates. Here is a sample Bethel City Council ballot.

LKSD School Board Candidates

There are six candidates running for the LKSD School Board. Incumbent Albert Felix from Tununak is running for a seat against Katie Anthony from Nightmute. Richard Long is running uncontested for a seat. Three candidates are competing for a seat to represent Bethel: incumbent Deanna Latham, incumbent Michael Husa, and newcomer Catherine Cedars.
