COVID-19 cases in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta have slightly decreased from last week. The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation reported 213 new COVID-19 cases in the region over the past week, from Sept. 20 to Sept. 26. YKHC also reported six new hospitalizations in-region, one medevac, and zero deaths due to the virus during this one week period.

This is 51 fewer cases, or a 19% decrease in cases, in the region compared to the previous week. Last week there were 264 new cases, three hospitalizations, and one death.

Across the Yukon-Kuskokim Delta, 14,419 individuals, or 76.7% of the eligible population, are fully vaccinated against the virus, according to state data. This is a 2.1% increase from last week.

Statewide, there were 8,915 cases in the past week. During that time, the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta made up 2.4% of the state’s new COVID-19 cases.

While the State of Alaska's COVID-19 cases have skyrocketed over the past seven days, the Y-K Delta did not substantially contribute to this increase.

Per capita, the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta is reporting fewer COVID-19 cases on average than the state, and more cases per capita than the national average. From Sept. 20 to Sept. 26, YKHC announced an average of 30.4 new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people in the region; about 734.5 people developed COVID-19 in the last seven days. In the same time period, the state announced 1,223.1 new cases per 100,000 people across Alaska, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced 200.8 cases per 100,000 people across the U.S. over the same period.

The Yukon-Kuskokim Delta has a higher vaccination rate than both the state of Alaska and the U.S. So far, 14,419 people in the region have been fully vaccinated against the virus. That’s 76.7% of the eligible population, compared to 58.9% of eligible Alaskans who’ve been vaccinated and 64.8% of eligible Americans.

The Y-K Delta Region outpaces both the state and nation in eligible, fully-vaccinated individuals.
