From Nov. 5, 2025 to Jan. 15, 2026, hunters in the portion of the Unit 18 management area known as RM617 will be able to harvest one bull moose, excluding male calves.

Alaska Wildlife Troopers say two 16-year-old residents allegedly killed a bull moose a short distance from the community’s airport, failed to salvage the meat, and shot the moose using an unpermitted type of rifle.

For the first time, this hunt is not limited to antlered moose – any moose may be harvested within the hunt boundary. There will be 140 permits available on a first come, first served basis, with a quota of 70 moose.

Online registration for the RM615 hunt will remain open for both individual and proxy hunters until Oct. 15.
