Dallas Seavey racked up his fifth Iditarod win on March 15, crossing the finish line at 8:05 a.m. with 10 dogs in harness. Aaron Burmeister, who was running about 20 miles behind the winner, came in second. The rest of the lead pack is strung out along the trail between the finish line at Deshka Landing and Skwentna, including Aniak musher Richie Diehl. He is expected to cross the finish line sometime during the afternoon of March 15.
While Diehl was consistently one of the top 10 racers in the 2021 Iditarod, his buddy, Bethel musher Pete Kaiser, had a tougher time, scratching in McGrath after his team got sick.
