Bethel's Pete Kaiser Scratches From Iditarod

Bethel musher Pete Kaiser arrives into the McGrath checkpoint on the Iditarod trail on March 5, 2019.
Ben Matheson

Bethel musher Pete Kaiser is out of the 2021 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.

Kaiser got back to the McGrath Checkpoint on the return leg of the Iditarod and stopped. Faced with a sick team, he scratched. The decision on the morning of March 13 leaves Aniak's Richie Diehl as the only Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta musher in the top 10 as the Iditarod front runners head to the Alaska Range. As of the morning of March 13, Dallas Seavey was leading the pack.
