Patience may be required this summer to navigate Bethel’s Chief Eddie Hoffman Highway. Knik Construction Superintendent Bob McDonald said that delays from highway work could be four to five minutes in some places, starting in late June.
“I see the delay as minimal,” McDonald said. “There’s just no way to pave an entire highway without some impact.”
McDonald expects to finish repaving the highway by late August. Knik Construction is also repairing sections of the Bethel Airport runway this summer.
“We’re going to dig out those sections, approximately 30 feet deep, replace the pads, upgrade with geo-fabric and good materials, and build it back up,” McDonald said.
McDonald said that the airport work will not be causing delays in flights in and out of Bethel.
