Moose Hunting Season Extended In Unit 18, Zone 2

There’ll be a longer moose hunting season this fall in Zone 2 of state Game Management Unit 18. On August 5, the Federal Subsistence Board approved a proposal to extend the moose hunting season in this zone by two weeks. Now the season will last from September 1 to October 15, rather than just the month of September. Zone 2 stretches between the Kilbuck Mountains and the Kuskokwim River tributaries.

The Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge submitted the proposal to increase subsistence moose hunting opportunities in the area. Since 2017, the moose harvest in the zone has averaged 78 moose, 30% below the 110 moose quota. If harvest does not increase, the refuge said that it may consider other management changes.
