Vaccinations will be required for students residing in the UAF Kuskokwim Campus dorm this fall. The Bethel dorm is the only unit of the University of Alaska Fairbanks housing system that will require student vaccination against COVID-19. It is also the only UAF dormitory located off the road system.

UAF Chancellor Dan White said that the leadership of the Kuskokwim Campus requested the vaccination requirement.

“The concern there is access to healthcare in the region and access to healthcare in the surrounding communities, where students are coming from and going back to, was limited," White said. "So there was concern of possible virus transmission of infections related to the residence facility.”

However, Kuskokwim Campus facility and staff, including dorm staff, are not required at present to be vaccinated against COVID-19. UAF has not made vaccination an employee mandate.

Masks, though, are mandated to be worn inside all UAF facilities, including the Bethel Cultural Center and library.

Students living in dorms at the University of Alaska Southeast and University of Alaska Anchorage this fall also must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
