His aunt Carol Samuelson, who is his legal guardian, won $10,000 for also being vaccinated.
The other sweepstakes winner this week is Jim Durkee from Fairbanks, who also won $49,000.
The Alaska Chamber of Commerce is running the sweepstakes, called Give AK a Shot. It’s an incentive program to encourage people to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Each week through the end of October, two vaccinated winners are selected to win a $49,000 prize. Alaskans over age 18 receive that money in cash. Alaskans age 12 to 17 win that amount in an education scholarship, and their legal guardians could win $10,000 for being vaccinated as well.
Alaskans vaccinated after Sept. 2 must enter the contest the same week they are vaccinated to be eligible to win. Alaskans vaccinated before Sept. 2 have until Oct. 30 to enter.
