Richie Diehl drove his dogs into Deshka Landing at around 3:30 p.m. on March 15, the ninth sled dog team to cross the Iditarod finish line.

The Aniak musher had nine dogs in harness. Dallas Seavey won the race earlier the same day.

Bethel musher Victoria Hardwick is bringing up the rear much further back on the trail, mushing towards the Rohn checkpoint. Hardwick is no stranger to that position, having earned the Red Lantern Award in the 2019 Iditarod for being the last musher to make it to Nome.

Johanna Eurich's vivid broadcast productions have been widely heard on National Public Radio since 1978. She spent her childhood speaking Thai, then learned English as a teenager and was educated at a dance academy, boarding schools and with leading intellectuals at her grandparents' dinner table in Philadelphia.
