This week's "What It Is At LKSD" is brought to you by athletes from the Bethel Regional High School Cross-Country team: Cadence Cedars, Fiona Phelan, and Beth Hensley.

Here’s what it is at LKSD:

Byron Nicolai, from Toksook Bay, will be travelling to Napaskiak on Friday. He will be visiting the school to mentor the students on becoming more active.

In Napakiak there will be a Mix Six Volleyball tournament. As of now, there are four teams traveling in to compete: Akiuk, Atmautluak, Eek, and Tuntutuliak.

On Sunday, from 4 to 6 p.m., Nunapitchuk will be hosting a "Welcome Back to School" potluck to welcome their teachers returning from summer break. Teachers will be introduced to the community and have a chance to talk about where they are from. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Bethel Warriors cross-country team will be headed to Anchorage this weekend for the state cross-country championship. The boys cross-country took first place, scoring 22 points and beating out Nome with 45 and Kotzebue with 55 points. BRHS Sophmore Thomas Phelan took first in the race for the Bethel Warriors. The BRHS girls took second place to Nome. However, five of the girls placed in the top 15, awarding them a spot at the state championship.

The top five girls and boys from the LKSD village schools will also be participating in the cross-country state championships.

For the girls: Elsa Tinker from Kongiganak, Amanda Kanrilak from Tununak, Shayna Evan from Kongiganak, Nelliann Smith from Tuntutuliak, and Reann Lincoln from Tununak.

For the boys: Jacob Clark from Kwethluk, Eric Tinker from Akula, Sean Lupie from Kongiganak, Chris Alexie from Quinhagak, and Walter John from Kipnuk.

Good luck at state everyone!

And that’s what it is at LKSD.
