A tundra brush fire broke out in the sand pit by the gun range in Bethel on the night of May 25. Bethel fire chief Daron Solesbee said that a call came in reporting the fire at 7:42 p.m.

Firefighters responded to a fire that was just under 1 acre. Solesbee said that no structures were damaged, and that the fire was out within two hours of the report.

Temperatures in Bethel have reached over 70 degrees this week. Two other wildfires broke out in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta in the past few days: one near Akiachak and another near Scammon Bay.

The cause of the Bethel fire is under investigation. If you have any information on how the fire started, call the Bethel Fire Department at 907-543-2131.
