State Marijuana Control Board Approves Two More Marijuana Stores With Conditions

Two more marijuana stores are one step closer to opening in Bethel. Last week, the state’s Marijuana Control Board approved “Kusko Kush” and ”Alaskan Grown Cannabis,” but they had some conditions.

Both stores will have to obtain fire marshal approval, and both stores will need to wait until the end of the protest period. The deadline for the City of Bethel to protest Kusko Kush is Oct. 13, and the city has until Oct. 25 to protest the Alaskan Grown Cannabis store on Chief Eddie Hoffman Highway next to Q2. This is the second site proposed for Alaskan Grown Cannabis.

The city already protested the first Alaskan Grown Cannabis site on Tundra Way. City council said that the building in question was too old and dangerous. However, the state Marijuana Control Board said that the protest was missing some language and asked the city to resubmit it. The board will review that protest again at its next meeting.

Correction: An earlier version of this story reported the deadline to protest the second proposed Alaskan Grown Cannabis marijuana store was Sept. 26. The deadline is actually Oct. 25.
