Maurice Andrews Wins Kwethluk Sled Dog Race

Musher Maurice Andrews of Bethel took first in the Kwethluk Sled Dog Race this past weekend. The race was composed of two 20-mile sprint races across a snowy trail on Saturday, Feb. 15 and Sunday, Feb. 16. Mushers were ranked by their total elapsed time.

Maurice Andrews finished first with a total elapsed time of 3 hours, 7 minutes, and 32 seconds. He was tightly followed by Greg Larson, who took a close second with a total elapsed time of 3 hours, 8 minutes, and 29 seconds. In third, Cukayak Olick’s total elapsed time was 3 hours, 17 minutes, and 59 seconds.

Eleven mushers from various Kuskokwim River communities competed for the $6,000 overall purse.
