K300 Weekend Races Begins Tonight In Bethel

Kerry Cobbledick

The weekend of K300 races begins tonight, January 18, 2019, in Bethel. The Bogus Creek 150 starts at 5 p.m. with eight mushers. Then at 6:30 p.m., the Kuskokwim 300 begins with 18 mushers signed up to leave the chute.

The teams will race along the traditional route over an icy trail that has more snow on it than in recent years. A fireworks show will follow after all of the mushers have started the race. The next day, on Saturday, the approximately 50-mile Akiak Dash takes off in a mass start at 2 p.m.

The start and finish line for all three races will be near Bethel's small boat harbor, and Bethel Search and Rescue advises spectators to avoid parking too many heavy vehicles on the ice.

Like every K300, KYUK will be your source for the latest race information, with reporters in every checkpoint. Tune into KYUK 640 AM and visit us online all weekend long for the latest updates. Happy K300!
