GCI Limiting Bethel Store Hours, Closing Many Urban Sites

While telecommunications carrier GCI is closing down many of its urban retail stores in Alaska, the Bethel store will remain open with shortened hours, for now.

Starting March 18, the Bethel GCI store, located in the Alaska Commercial Company Building, will operate from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and be closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Beginning March 17 at 5 p.m., many GCI stores in Anchorage and Mat-Su closed indefinitely as a way to promote social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic and respond to the increasing number of customers who are choosing to call rather than visit stores.

In a press release, GCI says that in recent days the company has begun “implementing new practices that include more stringent cleaning protocols at facilities, suspending out-of-state and international travel, limiting internal in-person meetings, and encouraging eligible employees to work from home.”

Customers who need to contact a GCI representative are encouraged to reach out to the GCI Call Center at 1-800-800-4800 or by email at rcs@gci.com. A Live Chat function and library of self-service articles are also available at https://www.gci.com/support.
