Among the governor's proposed allocations is $54.9 million in funding for a new school in Napakiak. Napakiak and the eroding Kuskokwim shoreline on September 16, 2021.

Last night, the Bethel City Council quickly and unanimously approved the sale of two used fuel tanks to the Lower Kuskokwim School District to help deal with erosion.

The U.S. Coast Guard has ordered Napakiak to drain its fuel tanks because they are close to where the Kuskokwim River is eroding, and Bethel is in a position to help out.

"It’s tanks we don’t use and they desperately need. We’re getting fair market value on them. It seems like a great deal," said council member Leif Albertson.

The Coast Guard has ordered that the fuel be out of the tanks by August 30, this Friday.
