Bethel has a new mayor, and her name is Michelle DeWitt. DeWitt was recently re-elected to a two-year term after serving on Bethel City Council for the past year. Haley Hanson remains Bethel's vice mayor. The city council chose the two women to lead it in a unanimous vote on Oct. 19.
As of now, five out of the seven council members are women. That number may become four when Cecilia "Cece" Franko’s resignation becomes effective Oct. 31. If you are interested in filling the vacant seat, you must submit a letter of intent to the Bethel City Clerk’s office by Nov. 4 at 4 p.m.
