Aniak Man Indicted On Felony Gun Charges

Aniak, Alaska
Alaska Department of Commerce

Alfred Morgan, 35, of Aniak has been indicted on federal felony gun charges that stem from an incident that happened in 2020.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Alaska State Troopers responded to a domestic violence call at an Aniak home in August 2020. Troopers made contact with one man who was holding a knife. Federal prosecutors say that Morgan stepped between the officer and the man with the knife and pointed a rifle at the trooper. Morgan obeyed the trooper’s command to drop the rifle, but allegedly retrieved it when a second trooper arrived on the scene.

The troopers were able to secure Morgan and the rifle, but while they were apprehending the other man with the knife, prosecutors say that Morgan fled the scene in handcuffs. He was later apprehended and transported to the Aniak jail.

Alfred Morgan has two prior felony DUI convictions and is prohibited from possessing firearms. If convicted on the federal charges, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
