A proposed map of District 38 the 2021 Alaska Redistricting Board is considering.

Appointed officials are in the process of redrawing the boundaries of Alaska’s voting districts. They have to be adjusted each decade to account for population changes found in the U.S. Census.

The Alaska Redistricting Board is holding meetings around the state to gather public comment on the proposed maps. There are currently six possible mapsunder consideration.

The board will hold a public meeting in Bethel on Tuesday, Oct. 19 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Yupiit Piciryarait Cultural Center. The meeting will be a chance for people to review the maps, discuss the plans with the board, and provide feedback. Masks and social distancing will be required.

You can also e-mail your public testimony to email address testimony@akredistrict.org.

People will have a chance to learn more about the maps before the meeting. There will be a Zoom session to present and explain the proposed maps this coming Friday, Oct. 15, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Here is the meeting link.

There will also be two statewide call-ins to provide feedback on Oct. 20 and Oct. 30. The times for those meetings have not been announced. The teleconference number for those meetings is 844-586-9085.
