Bethel's new planning director is a familiar face. Ted Meyer will return to the position he left in 2017. He served from 2015 to 2017 before resigning, and Wednesday was his first day back.

In the meantime, the city continues its search for a police chief. Human Resources Director James Harris says that nobody has applied yet. One potential applicant inquired, but said that the salary was too low.

The executive search firm is still advertising the city manager position as well. The search firm will wrap up that phase of the process on August 30, and then narrow the field down to a handful of candidates. From there, city council will make the final decision.

City council seats are up for grabs. Candidacy packets are available now, and candidates must get their paperwork to the city by Aug. 20 at 4 p.m. on the dot. City Clerk Lori Strickler says that she will not accept any packet submitted at 4:01 p.m. on Aug. 20.
