KYUK Board Of Directors Openings

Katie Basile

KYUK/Bethel Broadcasting, Inc. has two openings on its board of directors. The board is responsible for steering KYUK to a sustainable future with sound planning, governance, and financial oversight.

KYUK is the oldest Native-owned media organization in the United States, and the only station providing daily news in an indigenous language.

One of the seats is at large, meaning that the applicant can be from anywhere. The other seat is open only to someone currently living in the coastal region, which includes the following villages: Chevak, Hooper Bay, Scammon Bay, Nightmute, Newtok, Toksook Bay, Mekoryuk, and Tununak. All members sit for three year terms. The board meets on a quarterly basis, with extra committee meetings at various times.

To apply, or for more information, send a resume and letter of interest to shane@kyuk.org by May 31.

Julia was born in Bethel and grew up in Tuntutuliak. She was born the last of 6 children. She was raised in a Yup’ik household and spoke only Yup’ik until she was about 10 years old.
