National Weather Service Issues Flood Watch For Middle Kuskokwim Communities

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for communities along the middle Kuskokwim River from Aniak to Akiak.

The flood watch went into effect April 30 after an ice jam formed downstream of Napaimute. While that ice jam is currently causing flooding upstream, the Weather Service says that there will be potential for flooding downstream when that ice jam releases. The flood watch states that residents should be prepared for rapid rises in river levels, and should take necessary precautions for protection of life and property.
