The Federal Subsistence Board has opened an emergency moose season, but only for Tuluksak. The moose opener begins on Saturday, August 18, and ends on August 31.
The manager of the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge will issue permits for up to seven antlered bulls.
According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the village is suffering from a worrying food shortage due to power outages. Many Tuluksak residents lost their salmon and other frozen subsistence foods after a power outage in August knocked out their freezers.
