The U.S. Poet Laureate is speaking at Bethel's library on Tuesday evening.

Tracy K. Smith's poetry elegantly grapples with the legacies of racial injustice and poverty in American life. Her upcoming book, “American Journal,” is an anthology of 50 different poems that represent 50 different outlooks on what it means to be American. You can watch one of her past readings below:

In the weeks before and after her book is released, Smith is traveling to rural communities throughout the United States to talk to residents about the role that art plays in their lives.

Bethel residents can meet Smith and listen to her poetry at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening. Smith's anthology will be released on September 4.
