Andrews First Into Tuluksak in Bogus Creek 150

KYUK

Maurice Andrews is the first musher to reach Tuluksak in the 2018 Bogus Creek 150. Wearing bib number four, the 34-year-old racer pulled into the checkpoint at 9:45 p.m. on Friday and spent four minutes in the checkpoint snacking his dogs. Andrews departed Bethel two minutes behind the first mushers Friday evening.

Twelve minutes after Andrews’ arrival, Bethel musher Matt Scott pulled into the Tuluksak checkpoint and dropped one dog. Kwethluk racer Cameron Jackson arrived third. The field of 15 teams left Bethel at 5:00 p.m. Friday to run about 142 miles from Bethel to Bogus Creek, where teams take a mandatory four-hour break before racing through the night back to Bethel.

Two past champions return to the 2018 race. Four time winner and defending champion Lewis Pavilla was 13th to leave the starting line, directly after past champion Fr. Alexander Larson. The Bogus Creek 150 offers a  $50,000 purse, with $7,500 going to the winning team.
