In the wake of a decision by Coastal Villages Region Fund to close it’s commercial fisheries program this year, fishermen in communities across the region are crying out for help: help from the state, help from CVRF, help from just about anyone. A few men and women from Quinhagak, one of the most affected villages where many of the working adults are commercial fishermen, gathered Friday night to sing a kind of sad song—the fishermen’s song.
After a recent visit to Quinhagak, Rep. Bob Herron contacted the governor's office requesting disaster relief funds for the people of the region. It is not yet clear if that funding will go through, or if it does go through, if it will be enough.
