NYO Medals Come Back To Y-K Delta

Tommy Bayayok Jr.

This year, athletes from the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region brought two first-place finishes back from the Native Youth Olympics.

Kaeli Amik took a first in the girls' Alaska high kick, and Tristan Anaver came in first in the boys' seal hop. They are both students in the Lower Kuskowkim School District.

Six students from the region brought home second place finishes. Three of them went to students from LKSD. Eric Tinker placed second in the boys' kneel jump, Iris Paul in the boys' one-hand reach, and Arnold Phillip in the boys' Eskimo stick pull. Chevak athletes brought home two second-place finishes: Chandler Ulroan in the boys' wrist carry, and Michelle Atcherian in the girls' seal hop. Bethel’s Jamin Crow won second place in the boys' scissor broad jump.

The Lower Kuskowkim School District continued to place on the podium with third place ribbons brought back by Arnold Phillip in the boys' Alaska high kick, Amanda Kanrillak in the girls' two-foot high kick, Jaden Black in the boys' two-foot high kick, and Erick Tanker in the one-foot high kick. Bethel’s JoBeth Stuart got third place in the girls' one-hand reach.

In all, the LKSD athletes did so well that they earned a tie for second place with Unalaska for a team ribbon.
