Napakiak Woman Arrested With Stolen Semi-Automatic Rifle

Elaine Andrews, age 23, was arrested in Napakiak on Sunday, March 25, 2018.

A semi-automatic rifle reported stolen two years ago showed up in the hands of an intoxicated woman in Napakiak this weekend.

On Sunday, Elaine Andrew allegedly armed herself with a stolen AR-10 and tried to enter her neighbors’ homes. The Alaska State Troopers quickly arrested her.

Her neighbors told Trooper Bryce Weight that they saw the 23-year-old walking through Napakiak on Sunday morning, using the rifle to knock on their doors and windows. When they refused to let her in, she moved on to the next house.

Resident Brian Laraux wrestled the rifle away from Andrews, and another community member alerted the Troopers. Trooper Weight writes that Andrews was visibly intoxicated when he arrived at the scene and seemed to be confused. She told him that she bought the rifle from a friend, but when Trooper Weight checked the AR-10’s serial number, he found that the rifle was reported stolen in Bethel in 2016.

Andrews was remanded to the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center and is charged with misconduct involving a weapon.
