Alaska State Troopers arrested a Napakiak tribal police officer on charges of sexually abusing a minor.

Court documents say that an employee at the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation reported to the Alaska State Troopers that Tribal Police Officer William Smith had “consensual sex” with a 14-year-old; Smith is 22.

YKHC was treating the victim for the sexually-transmitted disease, chlamydia, when she told an employee that she was having sex with Smith, and that he knew how old she was. When the Troopers confronted Smith, he admitted to having sex with her and did not deny that he knew her age. Smith is being charged with sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree.

The Trooper report says that they were also conducting a separate investigation into allegations that Smith assaulted a woman who was in protective custody under his care in Napakiak.
