A Case For Traditional Foods: Nutrition With YKHC's Diabetes Prevention And Control

This month, YKHC Diabetes Prevention and Control Counselor Emory Johnson is flying solo. She discusses nutrition and the benefits of subsistence foods over processed foods as we enter moose season.

Did you know that the YKHC Diabetes Prevention and Control Department offers Community and Activity Garden awards of up to $5,000? To apply, contact Emory Johnson at 907-543-6133 or diabetes_program@ykhc.org. You can also access the application here.

Due to COVID-19, the monthly diabetes support group will no longer meet. If you or a family member would like support, Diabetes Prevention and Control encourages people to contact their case managers directly, or call Emory Johnson at 907-543-6133.

This month, Diabetes Prevention and Control is spponsoring the second annual rock hunt. Looking to participate? Paint a rock and then find a place in town to display it. You can also get outside and look for others' rocks. To show participation, snap a photo and send it to the Diabetes Prevention and Control email at diabetes_program@ykhc.org for a prize.

Elyssa (she/her) was the Wellness Programming Producer from 2020-2022.
