Bethel DMV Closed Indefinitely

The Bethel DMV office closed without warning on Friday, May 10. A sign posted next to the door said that the office is closed indefinitely.

Division of Motor Vehicles Director Marla Thompson says that they are hiring to fill the position. She says that the deadline to apply is today, May 13. Thompson says that it will take time to train the new employee; it’s unclear when the office will reopen.

With the DMV closed, these services are unavailable: issuing original driver’s licenses or ID cards, issuing permits, and road testing.

But some services are available online or by telephone. That includes renewing driver’s licenses and ID cards, ordering duplicate licenses and ID cards, personalized plates, scheduling a road test, updating addresses, renewing permanent disabled parking permits and registrations for boats, cars, and snowmachines, and ordering duplicate registrations. Title transfers can be mailed into the Anchorage office for processing.
