On Monday, Aug. 17, the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation announced that three more people tested positive for the coronavirus. One was a Bethel resident who tested positive in Anchorage. Another lives in a village that YKHC serves, and flew into the community before the test result came back. Another Bethel resident tested positive during YKHC’s free airport testing. All three are currently self-isolating.

The news comes after YKHC announced its biggest spike in cases last week, when a group of people tested positive after coming into close contact with a travel-related case. So far, YKHC has announced 59 cases of COVID-19. Thirty-nine of those cases have recovered; 15 are still active, according to YKHC's dashboard.

YKHC urges everyone to remain vigilant and practice all known protective measures against COVID-19. Protective measures include avoiding all non-essential travel, regularly washing hands, staying 6 feet away from non-household members, wearing a mask when in public, and disinfecting high-touch surfaces.

Everyone traveling into the region can get tested for the virus for free at the Bethel, Aniak, and St. Mary’s airports. Free testing is also offered at the Bethel hospital parking lot every Wednesday from noon to 4 p.m. No appointment is needed.
