Barrick Gold Resumes Mining Operations in Argentina

Barrick Gold

Barrick Gold has resumed drilling operations at its Valedero mine in Argentina after suspending operations following a cyanide solution spill last month.

An online story by Cecelia Jamasmie at Mining.com says that Barrick, the worlds largest gold mining company, announced on Tuesday that they have resumed mining operations after a judge ordered the mine to remain closed to determine if there were any risks to the environment or nearby people.

Barrick’s website says that on September 8, a block of ice rolled down a heap leach valley and broke a pipe carrying a solution containing cyanide. Some solution left the leach pad, but Barrick says that the environment and the community were not harmed, surface and subsurface water testing detected no anomalies, and that more intense testing would be done to be sure.

Barrick forecasted the production of around a half a million ounces of gold for 2016.

Barrick Gold Corporation and NovaGold Resources are co-owners of Donlin Gold.
