Delta Students Learn About River Management

As school starts again in the Delta, some students may be returning with new skills and experiences they picked up over the summer. One way they might have done so was by participating in an EXCEL Alaska summer program aimed at getting kids interested in the science of fish. KYUK’s Adrian Wagner spoke with Dave Cannon, Fish Biologist with the Kuskokwim River Watershed Council, about the program. Cannon worked with the 24 students, most of whom were from the Kuspuk School District, during a two-week float down the Aniak River.

Students from the program prepare to identify and measure the length of juvenile salmon and Dolly Varden with Janessa Esquible of ONC.
