The Association of Village Council Presidents has presented a $1.5 million grant to the Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program, or ANSEP.
In a press release announced Monday, the grant will support ANSEP’s STEM or Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics program over the next three years. The STEM program helps Alaska students better prepare for the academic and social challenges of college life.
ANSEP was founded in 1995 as a college scholarship program. According to their website, ANSEP is partnered with corporations, philanthropic organizations, state and federal agencies, universities, high schools, and middle schools. Nearly two thousand students have participated in ANSEP so far, ranging from middle school to college students and alumni.
