Wildfire Burns 80 Acres Near Napaimute

Wildfire season has begun on the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. A fire that ignited 3 miles from Napaimute along the upper Kuskokwim River burned 80 acres on Friday, May 31. 

Five firefighters initially flew in by helicopter; by then the fire had grown to 45 acres, and an additional 28 firefighters landed the next day to help contain the blaze. No damage to fish camps or homes was reported. Firefighters believe humans caused the fire, and the specifics are under investigation.
