The number of public washers and dryers in Bethel has doubled. On Friday, the Swanson’s Quick Food Center, better known as Q2, opened a new laundromat. It was originally set to open in June, but facilities manager Cliff Linderoth says that other projects got in the way. A few months later, the doors are open and the machines are ready to go. KYUK talked with Linderoth at the laundromat a few hours after the opening.

KYUK: Will you give me a tour?

Linderoth: Sure. We have six standard-sized washing machines and then one gigantic one.

KYUK: Yeah. What can you put in this?

Linderoth: In that you could wash blankets or sleeping bags or multiple loads. I think it’ll actually handle about three times what one of these [standard washers] will. And likewise, we have one industrial-sized dryer and six standard dryers.

KYUK: Okay, so the big question is how much does it cost?

Linderoth: Well, the standard machines are $4.50 a load. The industrial washer is $9.00. The standard dryers are $4.50, and the industrial dryer is $9.00.

The AC Quickstop holds the only other public laundromat in town, where a standard load is $5.00. Q2 is planning a grand opening for its laundromat in a couple weeks.
