The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation is asking everyone in the region to get a flu shot. The health corporation warns in a news release that simultaneous COVID-19 and flu outbreaks in the region could overwhelm the local medical capacity.

On Saturday, Oct. 24, YKHC will be providing free flu shots across the region. Anyone can show up without an appointment to receive a vaccine at one of the outdoor, drive-thru events.

In Bethel, flu shots will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the YKHC administrative building parking lot, in the same location as the COVID-19 testing tent.

The YKHC sub-regional clinics will host a flu shot clinic from 12 to 2 p.m. in Aniak, Emmonak, Hooper Bay, St. Mary’s, and Toksook Bay.

YKHC village clinics will offer flu shots from 12 to 3 p.m. in Akiak, Atmautluak, Chefornak, Grayling, Holy Cross, Kasigluk, Kipnuk, Kongiganak, Kotlik, Kwethluk, Lower Kalskag, Mekoryuk, Mountain Village, Pilot Station, Scammon bay, Tuluksak, and Upper Kalskag.

YKHC has sent flu vaccinations to all village clinics in the region. You can call your local clinic to schedule a flu shot.
