Chefornak’s Tribal Council President, Walter Lewis, is dead in an apparent snowmachine accident. A Medical Examiner report may help clarify what happened.
According to a State Trooper dispatch, Lewis, age 63, had reportedly been hauling firewood on a sled behind his snowmachine last week.
He was found dead on Thursday under the loaded sled about 20 miles west of Nunapitchuk. No one witnessed the crash.
