Katie Basile

Alaska regulatory officials are holding public hearings in both the Kuskokwim and Cook Inlet areas for Donlin Gold’s proposal to lease state land for its 315-mile natural gas pipeline. The pipeline would go from Cook Inlet, across the mountains, and down to the Upper Kuskokwim area to run a large power plant at Donlin Gold’s mining site near Crooked Creek.

The first hearing will occur at the McGrath Community Center in McGrath on February 27 at 4 p.m. The second hearing will be at Tyonek Tribal Center in Tyonek on February 28 at 1 p.m. The third hearing will happen at the Bethel Cultural Center on March 4 at 6 p.m. A fourth hearing is planned for the Aniak Community Center on March 6 at 7 p.m.

Back in the Cook Inlet area, there will be another hearing in Anchorage at the Atwood Conference Center on March 12 at 5:30 p.m. And finally, the last public hearing will be held at the Skwentna Roadhouse at 11 p.m. on March 13.

Comments for the proposed pipeline lease are due by March 22.
