Tribal leaders from across the Delta gathered in Bethel Monday by invitation of Association of Village Council Presidents to attend a workshop on placing lands into federal trust.
Having the federal government take land into trust has been the topic of recent discussions across Alaska. Local tribes are currently exploring the possibility of creating a system similar to Indian reservations in the lower 48. Attorneys working with the Falmouth Institute for Tribal Governance Training spoke at Monday's conference, and KYUK’s Adrian Wagner attended some of that meeting.
