Bethel said goodbye to one of its longtime officers last month. Bethel native and former BPD Officer Gwen Drake left the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta to begin working as a campus police officer at the University of Alaska Anchorage. She starts her new job Wednesday. KYUK talked with Drake about what’s ahead and how her time policing in a rural town will help her work on an urban campus.
Drake is maintaining ties with Bethel. She has family living in the community, and she’ll continue serving on the Tundra Women’s Coalition board.
