Changing the retirement terms for future employees and approving a five-year infrastructure plan are some of Tuesday night's big action items that sit before the Bethel City Council.
Before making his council exit, Mayor Richard Robb has put forward a resolution for the council to support some changes to the state's Public Employee Retirement System, changes that are being called "PERS Reform."
Should it pass, council would be supporting changes to, “include eliminating termination studies and all costs for reducing or eliminating departments, groups, or classifications of employees, as well as not inhibiting future additions of departments, groups, or classifications of employees.”
Also on the agenda tonight is an action item to approve a new Capital Improvement Plan for 2019 - 2023. Projects for year one of the plan include a new communications tower for the Bethel Police Department, renovating the boiler and heating system for the city’s Public Works Department, a city cemetery expansion, and funds to improve streets and roads, to name a few.
